Dr. John Liu, MD

​

John Liu is a comprehensive ophthalmologist who is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He has been with Waco Eye Associates since 1989.  

 

Raised in Tyler, TX, he graduated with highest academic honors from the University of Texas at Austin in 1979 with a BA in Biology, and was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society.  He then attended the University of Texas Medical School at Houston, graduating in 1983. He served a one year internship at Brackenridge Hospital in Austin, followed by an Ophthalmology residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he served as chief resident. Dr. Liu then went back to Houston for a fellowship in Cataract and Refractive Surgery under the direction of Douglas D. Koch, MD, Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Liu is Board Certified and is a Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He has been voted the Wacoan’s Best of Waco for Eye Doctors EVERY YEAR from 2010 through 2020, and is listed as one of Texas Monthly’s “Super Doctors”.  He and his wife Suzanne have two girls- Katie is an ICU nurse in Austin and Alexandra works as a marketing analyst in New York City. He holds a black belt in Combat Hapkido and a second-degree brown belt in Wado Ryu.
